The Bucks Workability Blog
Bucksworkability Disability Event
The event was on Thursday 20th May and was attended by service users, carers and employers and was supported by fifteen organisations which focus on disability and employment.
Visitors enjoyed tea and bacon rolls whilst listening to presentations on JobCentrePlus services, the Health4Work Adviceline and Mental Health First Aid training and about how to help support people at work. Later on, visitors had the chance to speak one to one with representatives from these organisations. The service users who designed and now maintain the Bucksworkability website were on hand to demonstrate how to access various parts of the site.
Bucskworkability is a network of organisations who work together to support people with disabilities in accessing employment, volunteering and training, and who also promote the benefits of employment on wellbeing.
Zita Calkin, event organiser, commented, “For me, the delivery and the preparations for the event have been an excellent example of partnership working at its best. A number of individuals from a range of organisations, not only participating on the day, helped in so many aspects of the organising.
“The positive impact that Bucksworkability partnership organisations have – and continue to have – on the employment opportunities for vulnerable adults in Buckinghamshire is affirmation enough for us to continue to work together and build on such success.”
